WHO WE ARE

The FRP Institute, formed in 2022, is a non-profit trade group whose primary purpose is to promote the increased use of fiber-based polymer reinforcement in concrete infrastructure such as bridges, roadways, seawalls and related structures. The FRP Institute collaborates with federal agencies, state DOTs, AASHTO, standards-setting groups and academia to increase awareness of FRPs, certify manufacturers, standardize specifications, test FRP materials and develop technical educational programming.

The FRP Institute is dedicated to advancing the use of fiber-reinforced polymers in concrete and educating the construction industry about the long-term value of building with non-corrosive reinforcement materials.

TYPICAL APPLICATIONS OF FRPs

    • Roadways, bridges, railings, median barriers.

    • Parking structures.

    • Sea walls, dry docks, port aprons.

    • Infrastructure and drainage products.

    • Wastewater treatment structures.

    • Architectural precast.

    • Wall systems.

    • High voltage substations, radio frequency-sensitive areas.

    • Hospital MRI areas, cable ducts and banks.

    • Seismic, wind or blast strengthening

    • Strengthening for “event and cycle loading”

    • Sequential evacuation or MATM tunneling

    • Temporary reinforcement, rock bolts.

FRP FACTS

  • 100% corrosion proof – no ongoing maintenance or repair costs

  • Only 25% the weight of steel, delivering huge savings in handling and transportation

  • FRPs have 2.5 times greater specific tensile strength than steel

  • UV-stable, chemical, alkali, salt and moisture resistant

  • Non-conductive, non-magnetic – no RF interference

  • Sustainable and environmentally friendly product

  • Optimal for use in harsh environments
